I am a freelance journalist specializing in corrections, law and the environment. I was a staff reporter for the Portland Phoenix and an Investigative Reporter for the three Midcoast newspapers of Courier Publications, where I also covered education, courts, the environment, business, city government and the Department of Corrections. As a freelancer, my work has appeared in The Maine Monitor and The Free Press. Many of my articles have received awards from the Maine Press Association.

Before working for newspapers, I was a marine science educator at the MDI Biological Laboratory and Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. I also worked on the trail crew at Acadia National Park.

One of my inspirations to become a journalist was my grandmother, an Italian immigrant who started an independent alternative newspaper with a partner in Stamford, CT in the 1970s when the official paper and radio station were censoring political candidates.
