Before joining the Portland Press Herald business team in 2022, I was a freelance journalist specializing in corrections and law with articles appearing in The Maine Monitor and The Free Press. Prior to that, I was a staff reporter for the Portland Phoenix and an investigative reporter for a time for Midcoast weeklies The Republican Journal, The Camden Herald and The Courier Gazette, where I also covered education, courts, the environment, business, city government and the Maine State Prison.
Before working for newspapers, I was a marine science educator at the MDI Biological Laboratory and Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. I also worked on the trail crew at Acadia National Park.
I credit my love for journalism to my grandmother Amelia Gerardi, an Italian immigrant who co-founded an independent alternative newspaper in Stamford, CT, in the 1970s.
